Confidence comes from repetition, not perfection. Most users feel comfortable using AI‑assisted notes after their first three attempts. Use this guide to understand the learning curve and what to expect at each stage.
We know that as a therapist, your time is best spent with your clients—not buried in paperwork. That’s why we’re so excited about our AI-Assisted Progress Notes. This feature is designed to help you save time while ensuring your documentation remains comprehensive, accurate, and professional.
Most users don’t fully feel the benefit of AI Progress Notes on the very first note—and that’s expected. Confidence builds over the first few notes as your workflow clicks. This guide walks you through what to expect at each step.
Note #1 — Learning the Workflow
Focus: Getting familiar with the process.
What to Expect
Writing the first note may feel slower than usual as you navigate the new interface.
You’ll learn where to click (such as the Enhance with AI button) and how the tool fits into your current workflow.
You’ll likely make several edits in the side-by-side comparison view before finalizing.
This is normal. The goal here is comfort, not speed.
Success Tip: Start with a recent session and focus on capturing a draft that includes:
Presented issues and topics: The main concerns the client brought up.
Therapeutic interventions: Specific techniques or methods you used.
Assessment and plan: Your professional evaluation and next steps.
Overall progress: How the session fits into the treatment journey.
Don’t worry about perfect wording; the AI will help structure these points into Subjective, Objective, and MSE sections.
Note #2 — Speed and Clarity
Focus: Improving efficiency.
What to Expect
You’ll spend less time wondering what to include in your initial summary.
The AI output will feel closer to your style because your input is becoming more structured.
Success Tip Be more specific about Goals and Interventions during the session setup.
Selecting specific checkboxes for goals and interventions (Page 4 of the guide) helps the AI improve the clarity of the Objective section.
Clear inputs = clearer drafts. This is usually where the process starts to feel significantly easier.
Note #3 — Confidence and Trust
Focus: Locking in your workflow.
What to Expect
The process begins to feel like a natural part of your day.
You’ll trust the AI-generated structure more and spend less time on heavy editing.
Edits become lighter and faster, focused primarily on your unique clinical voice.
Success Tip Before selecting Save & Exit, perform a final double-check of the AI-enhanced text now populated in your note:
Assessment accuracy.
Plan and next steps.
At this point, most users report that the workflow finally “clicks.”
If a Note Feels “Thin”
If an AI-generated note feels light or surface-level, it usually means the original input didn’t include enough detail. To improve output quality, ensure your summary includes:
Purpose: Why the client sought support, or which specific goal was addressed.
Action: What intervention or strategy was used during the session?
Response: How the client reacted or what changes were observed.
Next Steps: What happens next in the treatment plan?
Pro-Tip: More detail in = a stronger, more comprehensive draft out.
Final Reminder: You Are in Control
AI Progress Notes are designed to support, not replace, clinical judgment.
Review everything: Always review the AI draft before signing.
Refine: Use Copy to Progress Note, then make any necessary manual edits on the left-hand side.
Regenerate: If you make significant changes and want the AI to try again, select Regenerate.
AI drafts the structure—you own the note.
