There are two ways in which claims are submitted/resubmitted via Checkpoint: Auto Billing and Manual Billing. Below is an explanation of the two strategies.
Auto Billing
The key to this strategy is ensuring your sessions are in the "Billing Ready" status. Checkpoint will only automatically pick up your sessions that are in this status.
For initial submissions no intervention is needed. Once the progress note has been reviewed, the session status will change to "Billing Ready" automatically and be billed during auto billing.
For resubmissions, we recommend using the method below if you need to resubmit just a handful of claims or if your claims do not have a common denominator.
- From the Client Menu or Client Profile, click on the
for the client with sessions you'd like to resubmit.
- Click on the
for the specific session you'd like to resubmit.
- In the second column, select Status: Billing Ready.
- Click "Save".
Your claim(s) will now be sent in the next CP-generated batch. Claims are batched and sent to the payers M-F at 3:30 pm EST/ 2:30 pm EST.
Manual Billing
When billing manually you will need to tell Checkpoint which claims to send. Use this strategy if all your claims have something in common (i.e., payer, service, staff).
- Go to the Menu: Billing.
- Choose "Billing".
- Choose "Claim Batch Files".
- Click
to create a new batch of claims.
- Fill in the proper filters such as Session Status: Billed, and Insurance: Medicaid, and/or Service: OPT.
- Click Prepare File.
- Review claims for accuracy. If there are claims you'd like to not submit, uncheck the box(es).
- Click Create File.
Your claim batch has now been created. If your search returns nothing, go back and double check your filters. Ensure the filter "Session Status" is set to the status that the sessions are currently in.
